About the Artist
Rachel Sellew VanDenBerghe
is a multi-media artist originally from the state of South Carolina and currently living in Duluth, Georgia. Her love of nature and the beauty found in small, unsuspecting moments inspire her work.
She loves to bring joy to those around her with her artwork and paintings.
In her early life, Rachel Sellew grew up in a small town in South Carolina spending much of her free time outside, taking in the slower pace and quiet beauty around her. This created a love for nature and a search for beauty in the simple, often overlooked moments around us. These moments may be the way golden light peeks through the whispering leaves of a tree, or an elderly couple holding hands as they stroll through the park. They illustrate the beauty and simplicity of life that often gets overlooked by our busy, overstimulated lifestyles.
For her senior Fine Art show at Bob Jones University, Rachel explored this theme of overlooked beauty, especially in things that initially appear run down and old. Using mixed media and pottery, her work showed how the broken, run down, and overgrown parts of life can still spark wonder and admiration. In 2021, Rachel graduated Summa Cum Laude from her university and was awarded the Art and Design award for creative and artistic excellence.
Since then, Rachel married her husband Andrew VanDenBerghe and together they moved to Duluth Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, where the busyness and rush of life seems that much more prominent. While adjusting to the many changes, Rachel worked as a K5 teacher’s aide at Killian Hill Christian School and coached their middle school volleyball team. She is now transitioning to working as an artist full time.
